One of the most important stages in rhinoplasty is the bone shaping stage. The large size of the bone and cartilage leads to the arch on the back of the nose. In the classical technique, the excess of this bone and cartilage in the upper part is removed.

In protective rhinoplasty (other names are let-down rhinoplasty, push-down rhinoplasty or preservation rhinoplasty), the belt is lowered without touching the back of the nose. While doing this, bone and cartilage are removed from the base of the nose.

Whether classical or protective rhinoplasty will be applied to the person depends on the patient’s face and nose type, as well as the approach of the physician. In some cases, the classical technique is advantageous, while in some cases the protective technique can give better results. For this, a good patient-physician interview and examination is very important.
